\'Crèvecœur\', a webtoon co-produced by Kenaz and the French Ministry of Defense, will be released exclusively on Kakao Page on the 75th anniversary of the Korean War /Provided by the Embassy of France in Korea
The webtoon follows the journey of Sang-beom, a South Korean soldier assigned to a French battalion during the Korean War. It is a story about the friendship between Sang-beom, a soldier from a powerless country under Japanese occupation, and French soldiers stationed in Korea, who overcome misunderstandings and boundaries to form a friendship, capturing the fierce moments when they fought as one despite their different countries and races.
An unprecedented project co-produced by Korean webtoon maker Kenaz and the French Ministry of Defense, Crevecoeur brings to life the little-known story of a French battalion that fought alongside South Korean and UN forces during the Korean War. The project, which was supported by the Embassy of France in Korea and enhanced by historical consultation from French soldiers, represents a commitment to passing on memory through today\'s popular narrative formats.
It demonstrates the growing interest in Korean-French webtoon collaborations based on meaningful original content.
Jang Woo-ryong, the creator of Krebke, is a webtoon artist specializing in historical narratives, and has worked on \"General No Baek-ryin,\" one of the 100 Independence Fighters webtoon projects, as well as \"Bout One,\" \"That Day\'s Story,\" and a series of webtoons about the 16 participating countries in the UN. He has also illustrated the South Korean Air Force and illustrated the MBC special documentary \"Korean Soldiers Speak Even in Death.
\"\'Krevke\' shows how the medium of webtoons can be a rich source of cultural solidarity and communication between France and Korea,\" said Pierre Morcos, Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of France. \"It is a symbol of French-French friendship, a testament to the history shared between our two countries, and an example of how contemporary creation can contribute to reviving memories from more than 70 years ago. We are pleased that KakaoPage, Korea\'s leading webtoon platform, will be able to bring this touching story to a wider audience.\"
