(Jeonnam=NSP통신) Nam Jung-min Reporter = Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Kwan-kyu), announced that it held the \'2025 Suncheon Road Creative Camp Webtoon Makerthon\' at the Garden Work Center in Suncheon Bay National Garden from the 25th to the 27th.
The camp was held in a format where 35 prospective webtoon writers from all over the country participated and produced original webtoon plans inspired by the nature and space of Suncheon.
More than 140 people applied for the participant recruitment held in July, recording a competition rate of about 4 to 1. The 35 finalists were composed of content-specialized universities such as Cheongang University, Hongik University, and Korea National University of Film and Television, as well as winners of webtoon contests, creating a high-level creative atmosphere.
The participants, who came from all over the country, including Seoul and the Gyeonggi region, as well as Daejeon and Incheon, participated in an \'inspiration tour\' to find creative materials at Suncheon Bay Wetlands, a drama filming location, and the Aulim Library, capturing the vivid natural scenery of Suncheon Bay on camera and developing ideas for their works.
On the second day, the all-night work continued. Mentoring and plan writing continued until 5 a.m., and the one-on-one mentoring with seven current writers and PDs was said to be very helpful in enhancing the creators\' capabilities.
On the final day, the camp concluded with the submission of the completed pitches and feedback from the participants and mentors. One participant said, \"I didn\'t feel lonely with people walking the same path, and I was impressed by the creative environment in Suncheon.\"
\"The level of the participants was much higher than last year, and I felt again that Suncheon is the best environment for content creation,\" said a representative from global webtoon production company Kenaz, who participated as a mentor. \"We hope that this proposal will lead to a full series.\"
The seven best submissions will be selected through a first round of screening, and each team will receive KRW 2 million in creative support and the opportunity to produce a one-episode webtoon with production by Kenaz. The works will be unveiled at a showcase in October.
\"We hope that the participants will find both rest and creative inspiration in Suncheon, and we will spare no effort to foster talent to lead the future of K-content,\" said Noh Kwan-kyu, mayor of Suncheon.
Meanwhile, the Animation Makerthon will be held at the same venue from August 1-3, with Jang Jang-ho, director of the animated film King of Kings, which grossed 80 billion won in North America, as a special lecturer. The event is also open to the public.
